Intro

Saint Martin Island, a unique and valuable tourist destination in Bangladesh, is facing severe environmental damage due to plastic pollution, although its current condition is very deplorable. The island is producing 3000 kg of plastic waste daily, which has reduced the number of marine species from 140 to just 40, while the island’s landmass has dramatically decreased from 1.32 square kilometers to a mere 0.39 square kilometers. Because Goal 6 of the Sustainable Development Goals emphasizes protecting water quality by reducing pollution caused by plastics. At the same time, Goal 12 emphasizes sustainable practices to prevent plastic waste, aligned with Goal 13 to tackle emissions. Goal 14 emphasizes the protection of marine species, and Goal 15 emphasizes the need to protect ecosystems by ensuring a sustainable future.
