Sohanur Rahman, Chief Executive of Bangladesh Model Youth Parliament (Protiki Jubo Sangsad) and a founding member of the global youth movement Fridays for Future Bangladesh country chapter. He is the country’s key young climate advocate who coordinates the largest youth network,’YouthNet for Climate Justice’ and due to their advocacy regarding climate change, they were able to immensely engage the youth, media and Members of Parliament for which Bangladesh Parliament considered their demands and declared the first-ever motion titled ‘Planetary Emergency’. Sohanur was awarded for Youth for Water and Climate of Global Water Partnership (GWP) at COP22, COP26 Youth engagement challenge funded by British Council. He was recognised with “Nasreen Smriti Padak” last year by ActionAid Bangladesh for their outstanding contributions to women empowerment and society. He also attended COP26, held in Glasgow.
Members of his organization and he himself will be conducting climate camps all across Bangladesh as part of Climate Camp, Season-2, with the aim to spread climate awareness among their respective communities on this World Environment day, 2022.
